About Us
Co-proprietor, Stan Griffin
Forty-five years of growing cacti and other succulents has given me experience and understanding of their needs. Twenty years of showing and building displays for the society was an insight into this fascinating world. Spells of being Advertising manager, Marketing officer of the British Cactus & Succulent Society, Chairman and Show manager of the Birmingham branch, Chairman of Worcester Cactus Society, giving numerous talks and slide shows has provided me with a colourful background. This has now culminated into co-running this business to promote and provide plants of good quality and variety for your enjoyment.
Co-proprietor, Vicki Newman
Thirty years of teaching and educating children, Vicki was introduced to cacti and other succulents at a very early age by her father, Ray, who was one of those attending the inaugural meeting of the Birmingham branch of the BCSS. There is a purple streptocarpus plant, Vicki, registered in her name. Now with ten years as Show manager and committee work experience within the Birmingham branch of the BCSS, she intends to educate and inform others on how to grow and enjoy the plants.
We have had notable visits from celebrities to the CHC stand who have had a chat with us. They have included Chris Beardshaw, Carol Klein, Martin Fish, Frank Hardy, Diarmuid Gavin, Kevin McCloud, David Bellamy, Geoffrey Hughes, Howard Drury, Roddy Llewellyn and the Princess Royal, Alexandra. We have also supported Turner prize-winning artist Martin Creed with an exhibition at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham.
